Ice on Immigration: The deathknell for immigration reformQuestion: Is comprehensive immigration reform (CIR) now a dead issue in the United States Congress?Answer: Most likely, yes. There are still some legislators who would like to see reform happen this year, so there is always a chance that the situation could change. However, there is intense disagreement on what the reform provisions should be, and my opinion is that CIR will not be brought up again in Congress until late 2008 or 2009, after the presidential elections. For now, the current immigration laws are still in effect.
