From air transport to rail for trains, and roadways for motor cars, transportation within China is excellent, and beginning to rival some of the best the world can offer. China has provided excellent infrastructure to support the tourist industry.

Railway

The railway is the most important mode of transport in China. It carries about 40 percent of both passenger and freight traffic. The rail network in the country has grown extensive. All major cities are connected by rail. The Beijing-Kowloon line links Beijing and Hong Kong. The railway in China is an easy and cheap way for tourists to move about comfortably.

Aviation

China's aviation sector has grown more than ten fold since economic reforms began in 1978. The country has more than 150 airports today. About 1300 airlines, domestic and international, operate in China.

Road transport

There is over 1.90 million kilometers of roadway throughout China. Most cities in China have good road transportation systems. Tourists can take the public buses that ply the cities. There are also tour buses or coaches, minibuses and taxis.
