Asian Heritage Month in Canada Resources
April 2009 - As part of our annual Village update, the editors this year have tried to respond constructively to the periodic observations we receive from our friends and readers in Canada that Asian Pacific America doesn't stop at the Vermont (or Maine, or Minnesota, or Washington, or Montana, or North Dakota or Michigan or Idaho...) border, and neither should the Asian American Village. "Canada is in the Americas, after all," noted one impossible-to-refute feedback email. So we have done a review this year of some online resources featuring background and current events information about "Asian Heritage Month" aka "Mois du Patrimoine Asiatique". Most of these links began with a review of the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website at http://www.cic.gc.ca, which is the new repository of the online copy of the official Asian Heritage Month proclamation we have traditionally posted on the Village in May. In our review, we noted that a couple of the provincial sites had yet to be updated with the events calendars for 2009, but appeared poised to do so. In other instances, we've expanded upon the listing to include items of additional, local or community-specific interest, such as Ontario-only South Asian Heritage Month site, and others. If readers happen upon other good Heritage Month resources, we would welcome your suggestions on our Asian American Village blog or through the IMDiversity feedback form. -- The Editors
