At Poydras in the city's Central Business District, the nearly submerged cab with a trunk full of water speaks of this disaster's interrupted journeys, stalled hopes and stranded dreams.

Media tents lined the center of the world-famous Canal Street, where the trolley normally runs and parade floats are an iconic site.  But just a few yards from there, our truck could not cross the deep water.

The flooding wreaked havoc on the region's colleges, including the University of New Orleans, shown here at its entrance on Carondelet Street, where IMDiversity and THE BLACK COLLEGIAN are also headquartered.
