General Information

And THE BLACK COLLEGIAN Magazine named CIA one of the best places for young African Americans to work -- twenty-seventh on a list of fifty companies, ahead of such giants as AT&T, GM, Ford, and PepsiCo. This second item was especially gratifying to me because I had made it a priority to enhance the Agency's record on diversity.

Applications
Ads can be built in Quark, Indesign, Illustrator or Photoshop. If the application files are Quark or Indesign, all the links and fonts need to be supplied. If the ad is built in Illustrator, the fonts should be outlined so that fonts do not need to be supplied and if the linked files are not imbedded, they should be supplied. If the ads are created in Photoshop, any layered Photoshop file should be included in case there are changes. If the ads are built in other applications such as Pagemaker, Corel Draw or Publisher, to name a few, then PDF’s should be created and supplied. Also, if application files are supplied, a low-res PDF should also be supplied so that we have a visual of the correct final version.

PDF’s
All PDF’s supplied should have the fonts imbedded and the PDF’s should be hi-res, CMYK versions.

Methods of Shipping
Large PDF’s can be sent to Diversity Employers/THE BLACK COLLEGIAN FTP site.  If the final PDF is under 5 or 6 MB, they can be sent as email attachments either to:

  • 2/3 vertical: 4 3/4"w X 9 3/4"h
  • 1/2 island 4 3/4"w X 7 1/4"h
  • 1/2 horizontal: 7 1/8"w X 4 3/4"h

Trim Size:  7 7/8" x 10 3/4"
Bleed:  8 1/8" x 11" (Allow 1/8" on all sides.)  Keep live matter 3/8" from trim; full page ad only.
Column Specifications:  13 1/2" picas wide by 9 3/4" - three-column format
Binding:  Perfect Bound

Circulation and Distribution
Diversity Employers Magazine (incorporating THE BLACK COLLEGIAN Magazine) is distributed primarily through the Career Service Office on over 800 campuses on a controlled request basis (free).  It has a circulation 0f 125,000.

Agency commissions, Discounts, and Credit Terms

A 15 percent commission on gross billing on space and color charges is extended to recognized agencies.  Production charges are non-commissionable.  The agency is responsible for payment of all advertising ordered and published.  A two percent cast discount on net after agency commission is allowed if paid within10 days of the invoice date.  A one percent finance charge will be added to accounts 45 to 60 days past due.  A two percent finance charge will be added to accounts 61 to 90 days past due.  A 25 percent collection charge will be added to all outstanding invoices over ninety days.

Cancellations
:  Written notification of space cancellations must be received by the space closing deadline.  Cover positions may not be canceled within thirty days of the closing date.

Inserts:  Available at $8,000 per insert.

Contract and Copy Regulations

The publisher reserves the right to reject any advertisement at any time.  Publisher shall not be liable for any costs or damages for failure to publish an advertisement.  Positioning of advertisements is at the discretion of the publisher, except where a request for a preferred position has been accepted by the publisher.  The publisher is not responsible for errors in keyed or box number ads. Publisher is not responsible for errors in typeset ads.

The publisher shall have the right to hold the advertiser and/or its advertising agency jointly and severally liable for such monies as are due and payable to the publisher for advertising which the advertiser or its agency ordered and was published
