THE BLACK COLLEGIAN Online

THE BLACK COLLEGIAN Magazine, established is 1970, was transformed into THE BLACK COLLEGIAN Online in 1995 when it became the first African-American magazine on the Internet. THE BLACK COLLEGIAN Online expands the frequency, reach, and scope of the magazine.  It expands the frequency of the magazine from two issues during the school year to twelve monthly updates on the Internet; it expands the reach of the magazine from a circulation of 125,000 copies distributed on over 800 campuses, to a potential reach to everyone on the world-wide-web; and it expands the scope of the magazine from a focus primarily on careers and jobs to any subject of interest to African-American college students.

This site impresses me because of its focused content for African-Americans and its high quality jobs. It’s one of my all-time favorites for job seekers, and has been for several years now.

Job Searching for Dummies, 2nd Edition

THE BLACK COLLEGIAN Online took the magazine to another level in its development when it added the jobs and resume databases which added a much valued dimension to the recruitment magazine.  So, in addition to getting valuable career and job information, the students can now search THE BLACK COLLEGIAN Online’s vast database of equal-opportunity employers that are actively recruiting minority college students for entry-level job opportunities.  Students can also apply for these jobs online, and post their resumes in a database that employers search when they are actively recruiting.

THE BLACK COLLEGIAN Online expands the reach of college recruiters from the key schools they customarily recruit on by using THE BLACK COLLEGIAN Online’s searchable resume database.  THE BLACK COLLEGIAN Online also offers employers much more visibility than they can get in a magazine.  THE BLACK COLLEGIAN Online has the ability to offer significantly more content electronically than can be printed on a page in a magazine.  It also offers hyperlinks to take the students directly to the content on the employer’s Website.  THE BLACK COLLEGIAN Online offers employers the opportunity to get more visibility for their advertising investment. The Internet eliminates printing and mailing.

Editorial Content
THE BLACK COLLEGIAN Online is the cyberspace version of our magazine, which has been serving African-American collegians and the employers who recruit them since 1970. While the site is updated each month with content from the magazine, other articles are uploaded weekly and sometimes daily. The Home Page features the cover of the current issue of the magazine, and the Home Page has links to Search Jobs, Post Resumes, Site Charter Sponsors, Employer Profiles, Site Sponsors and Cornerstone of Diversity advertisers. The Home Page also lists the main feature articles for the month. Also featured on the Home Page are links to “Graduate and Professional School Guide,” “What’s Happening,” “African-American Issues,” “Global Study,” “Career Related,” “Xtra Curricular,” and “Monthly Issues.” The “Monthly Issue” goes back to 1997. THE BLACK COLLEGIAN Online has a wealth of information needed by African-American students in search of that first professional job.
