TIME Magazine Gives Its Take on "25 Most Influential Hispanics"

HAV wants to know who your candidates are

By Carol Amoruso, HAV Editor

This week’s issue of Time (August 22, 2005) is meatier than a lechón force-fed on whipped cream and mayonnaise.  With Time’s idiosyncratic selection of the 25 most influential Hispanics (note their contradistinction with Latinos) the cover story, and a Time-commissioned poll of Hispanics’ opinions on things like the overturning of Roe v. Wade and U.S. policy toward Cuba, as well as some dicey demographics, there’s much here to be digested, so to speak, and debated.

For example, if we are to accept “influential” to mean “having a great deal of power to change something, especially people’s behavior,” shall we accept that folks like Narciso Rodriguez, “The Magical Dressmaker,” and Jennifer Lopez, “The Diva from the Block,” and George Lopez (no relation), “The Prime-Time Funny Man,” have or may change our lives?  Should we allow them to?

We want to hear your voices.  You don’t have to run out (as did I), and toss your hard-earned $3.95 to Time, Inc.  Perusing can only cost you a hit at http://www.time.com.  But read, and ponder, and let us know what you think of their round-up

Who’s been omitted or overlooked?  Can you best Time with your own list of 10 or more deserving candidates?  And weigh in on the “Timely”  issues as well.

Give us a shout and we’ll hear you at HAVemail@verizon.net leaving the subject line as "HAVTIME".
