American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)
Founded in 1848 to represent all disciplines of science, AAAS supports scientific exchange and discussion of science and society issues. The AAAS Archives document the association’s past activities.

American Institute of Biological Sciences
A federally chartered, non-profit, scientific organization. AIBS serves as a national umbrella organization for the biological sciences—particularly for organismal and integrative biology—presenting objective scientific findings relevant to research, education and public policy on a wide range of issues affecting people and nature. Issues of particular concern include biodiversity, bioethics, biology education, environmental degradation, evolution, human-modified and natural ecosystems, human populations and sustainable natural resources.

American Medical Association
Get information on meetings, medical news, policy and public health issues.

National Academy of Sciences
A private, non-profit, self-perpetuating society of distinguished scholars engaged in scientific and engineering research, dedicated to the furtherance of science and technology and to their use for the general welfare. The academy has a mandate to advise the federal government on scientific and technical matters.

New York Academy of Sciences
Third oldest scientific society with members ranging from physicians, students, scientists, policymakers, etc. New “E-briefings” are well-written, comprehensive reports for meetings and debates that are enhanced with audio, video and slides when possible. Further links to background information, scientific literature and to agencies and organizations are provided.

Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB)

American Association for Cancer Research
A scientific society founded to facilitate communication and dissemination of knowledge among scientists and others who are dedicated to research in cancer and related biomedical sciences. Also has dedicated Membership Group, Minorities in Cancer Research, representing professionals from across the country that provides opportunities and event programming focused on both addressing disparities and advancing the careers of minority scientists.

American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB)
Objective is to provide for the exchange of scientific knowledge in the area of cell biology, through the scholarly dissemination of research at its annual meeting and in its publications. ASCB also strives to ensure the future of basic scientific research by providing training and development opportunities for students and young investigators, and by keeping Congress and the American public informed on the importance of biomedical research.

Cell Death and Apoptosis: The Cell Death Society
A general overview of apoptosis and programmed cell death, including its relationship to diseases, economics and more, from cell death journals, announcements of meetings and discussion sessions.

International Federation for Cell Biology
Promotes international cooperation and contributes to the advancement of cell biology in all its branches.

Association of Genetic Technologists
Professional organization for those engaged in classical cytogenetics, molecular and biochemical genetics. Includes educational opportunities, meetings and publications.

The Genome Action Coalition (TGAC)
Promotes an environment in government and in the private sector in which genome research can continue to flourish. Features legislation data and newsletter.

Genetics Society of America
Offers membership to scientists and academicians interested in the field of genetics studies; publishes the journal Genetics. Includes information on membership, board of directors and meetings.

Ifgene: International Forum for Genetic Engineering

AtomWorks is a coalition of science and industry leaders dedicated to catalyzing nanotechnology development and commercialization in Illinois and throughout the Midwest. Center for Responsible Nanotechnolgy
CRN studies, clarifies, and researches the issues involved—political, economic, military, humanitarian, and technological. CRN presents the results for both technical and popular audiences, and works to supply the information as effectively as possible. The purpose of CRN is to investigate the ethical, legal, and social implications (ELSI) of molecular manufacturing, and to educate those who will influence its use or be affected by it.

IEEE Nanotechnology Council

The Nanotechnology Institute
