Jun Choi Elected Mayor of Edison N.J.
Election Updates (links to further results

By the Asian American Village Staff
Nov. 9, 2005 - The New
Brunswick Home News Tribune Online reports that Korean American
Democrat Jun Choi, 34, prevailed in his bid to become Edison's first
Asian American mayor. Choi won by a margin of 272 votes with all
votes tallied, but opponent Williams Stephens said he planned to
challenge the results.
The local race made national news earlier this year after the "Jersey
Guys," talk-show hosts on the WKXW 101.5 FM radio station, made on-air
racial remarks about Choi and Asian Americans.
Choi's victory makes him the state's second Asian-American mayor.
Despite earlier news coverage of Choi's strong campaign frequently
predicted that he would become "the first APA mayor," the Home News
Tribune article cites information from the Asian Pacific American
Institute for Congressional Studies clarifying that Shing-Fu Hsueh has
been serving as the mayor of West Windsor, NJ.
En route to City Hall, Choi defeated incumbent Edison Mayor George
Spadoro, who had served 12 years, in a June primary.
